Early Textile Study Group Conference, September 2024
Since the last field season, our fantastic textile specialist, Magda, has been busy working on the data and images collected at Saqqara. In particular, our collection of textiles recovered from the late Old Kingdom burial contexts comprise well-preserved pieces, including garments, and, therefore, are a valuable material source to provide information on the ancient Egyptian textile making and clothing.
The Early Textile Study Group conference held at the University of Cambridge in September 2024 was a great opportunity for Magda to showcase our amazing textiles and findings of her research in a presentation titled ‘Saqqara Burials Project: An overview of the edges from the late Old Kingdom and Graeco-Roman cemeteries at Saqqara, Egypt’. The work on the textile artefacts from Saqqara will continue during the next fieldwork season in February 2025.
