Collaboration with the Czech Team at Abusir

We have an exciting news to share! After some talks with our Czech colleagues working at the neighbouring ancient necropolis at Abusir, both teams have agreed to work collaboratively and contribute data to our respective research projects. We are very much looking forward to this collaboration and better understanding of the life and death at the Memphite necropolis.

Why work together? The Saqqara and Abusir necropoleis are both parts of the extensive Memphite necropolis, which also includes the ancient cemeteries at Giza, Abu Rowash, and Dahshur, all located just a short distance away to the north and south, respectively. Both sites are contemporary and were established as burial grounds for the ancient Egyptian élite in the late Old Kingdom Period, and used later by the local population during the Late and the Graeco-Roman Periods. Working together will allow us to increase our datasets and make our analyses and results more robust. We hope that this, in turn, will greatly enhance our interpretation and understanding of the past local population and the multitude of factors that impacted their lives and survivorship.
